I think being a Lamb would suck.

we marked lambs all thursday and friday. we got like 500 done a day. we pick on up, put it in a cradle, stab it with a needle, squirt "drench" down the back of it's throat, cut out a chunk of it's ear, put a hole 1 inch in diametre in it's other ear - with a tag through it, if it a a male, put a very tight rubber band around it's balls, then cut off it's tail.
to cut off it's tail, we use a superheated cleaver-chopper (this cauterises the wound as it is cut) when that broke, we put a ring on the tail, then used a sharp knife to cut the tail off 2 inches from the band. i hope you realise that a tail is an extension of the spinal column and is full of nerves, ateries and veins.

i ended up covered in blood.

what worries me more is that, when looking at it from outside, it is the most horrible job that you want to have no part in. but once i got into it, i began to enjoy cutting off tails, i even went as far at to put the amputated tail on the back of my hand - dant ask why. 36 degree blood against your hand, bone, muscle and tendon. it is terrible and exhilarating at the same time.

on another note. i sould be riding horsies today and tomorrow! and every monday and tuesday for the rest of the course. hoorah!
